About the Lab

Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory is a new research and development institution jointly constructed by Shandong Province and Jinan Municipality, which was registered on 13th August 2021 and is located in Jinan International Medical Centre. The laboratory is co-founded by the National Key Laboratory of Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases and Critical Illnesses of Zhejiang University, and co-constructed by Shandong University, Nanjing University, and Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences). 

The laboratory focuses on the strategic needs of national science and technology innovation in the field of ‘microecology and biomedicine’ and the strategic scientific and technological frontiers of biomedicine international power, with the aim of ‘domestic leading, irreplaceable, world-class, leading the development of’, and benchmarking the international advanced laboratories, focusing on the construction of ‘microecology and critical illness diagnosis and treatment’. The laboratory will focus on the three strategic research directions of ‘micro-ecology and health’, ‘micro-ecology and disease’ and ‘new micro-ecology technology’.

Academician Li Lanjuan and Academician Yu Jinming will be the leaders of the Microecology and Health direction; Academician Zheng Shusen and Academician Chen Zijiang will be the leaders of the Microecology and Disease direction; and Academician Gu Xiaosong and Academician Zhang Yun will be the leaders of the Microecology and Bio-new Technology direction.

The laboratory will extensively carry out frontier scientific exploration, innovative talents training, public scientific research platform construction, scientific and technological achievements transformation, to create a training base for innovative talents, a new source of high and new technology, a new engine of results incubation, and to build a micro-ecological biomedical field from the ‘basic theory innovation’, ‘breakthroughs in key technologies’, ‘industrialisation’ to ‘innovation’. It will build a complete innovation chain from ‘basic theory innovation’, ‘key technology breakthrough’, ‘industrialisation’ to ‘application’ in the field of microecology and biomedicine, and become an international leading platform for scientific research and innovation, and transformation of achievements.
