About the Lab
Established on August 13, 2021, the Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory is a new-type research and development institution jointly built by Shandong Province and Jinan City, located in Jinan Medical Center (JMC).
The laboratory is co-founded by the State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, Zhejiang University, and has established partnerships with Shandong University and Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences). Li Lanjuan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Director of the State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, acts as the legal representative and the Director of the laboratory.
With the mission to become a top-notch, irreplaceable, world-class, and leading scientific institution in China, Jinan Lab strives to address the needs of national science and technology innovation strategies and strategic scientific frontiers for building China’s strength in biomedicine in the field of “microecology biomedicine”. In this area, the Lab is committed to keeping up with top laboratories across the world and driving strategic research on three divisions: microecology and infection, microecology and aging, microecology and transformative biomedical technologies.
The research of microecology and infection is headed by Academician Li Lanjuan and Academician Xu Jianguo, the research on microecology and aging by Academician Gu Xiaosong and Academician Zhang Yun, and the research on microecology and biomedical technology by Academician Zheng Shusen and Academician Chen Zijiang.
The Lab will push the frontier in scientific research, cultivate innovative talent, provide a public research platform, and advance the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. With the vision to become a world-leading hub of scientific research, innovation and research application, the Lab aims to serve as a center for innovative talent development, a driver for cutting-edge technologies, and an engine for practical applications. To this end, the Lab will build a complete innovation chain in the field of microecology and biomedicine, ranging from seeking innovation in basic theories, making breakthrough in key technologies, to promoting commercial application and scale-up.
