On 7 May 2026, the ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Building the Future Together’ achievements presentation event organised by the Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory was successfully held at the Conference Centre of Shandong First Medical University. Jointly organised by the Jinan Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, the Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory, the Huaiyin District People’s Government and the Administrative Committee of the Jinan International Medical Centre, the event focused on cutting-edge innovation and the core task of translating research into practical applications within the field of microecological biomedicine. It established a collaborative platform for efficient coordination and engagement among industry, academia, research institutions, medical sectors and financial stakeholders, thereby supporting the high-quality development of Jinan’s biopharmaceutical industry.

Professor Li Lanjuan, Chair of the Academic Committee of Jinan Provincial Laboratory of Microecological Biomedicine; Huang Bo, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of Jinan Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology; Qu Jingpeng, Deputy Secretary of Huaiyin District Party Committee; Zhang Ji, Director of Jinan International Medical Center Administrative Committee; relevant leading officials from government departments at all levels of Jinan City and Huaiyin District; representatives from Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences), Shandong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University and other institutions; Wu Nanping, Executive Deputy Director of Jinan Provincial Laboratory of Microecological Biomedicine; Li Xingang and Jiang Chunping, Deputy Directors of the Laboratory attended the event. Also present were more than 100 guests, including representatives from over 50 medical institutions, universities, research institutes, enterprises, industry associations and investment institutions along the upstream and downstream industrial chains, as well as journalists from major provincial and municipal media. The meeting was presided over by Zhang Ji and Li Xingang.
At the outset of the event, Qu Jingpeng and Huang Bo delivered opening addresses, both of whom spoke highly of the laboratory’s scientific breakthroughs in the field of microecological biomedicine. They expressed their hope that this launch event would serve as an opportunity to accelerate the transition of research findings from the laboratory to production lines and clinical practice, thereby injecting strong momentum into Jinan’s efforts to establish itself as an international medical hub.

In her address,Professor Li Lanjuan extended a warm welcome and gratitude to the leaders and guests in attendance. She outlined the laboratory’s key achievements since its establishment, including the construction of a comprehensive innovation system for the microbiome, breakthroughs in several internationally leading core technologies, and the promotion of technology transfer and industry-academia-research integration. She highlighted the laboratory’s landmark progress in the microbiome field, which has propelled China’s transition from “playing catch-up” to “keeping pace” and and in some areas, to “leading the field”. In the future, the laboratory will continue to focus on original, pioneering research, building a microecology innovation hub with international influence and contributing to the construction of a Healthy China.

Subsequently, Professor Li Lanjuan delivered a keynote speech on cutting-edge trends and clinical applications in microecological biomedicine. She provided an in-depth analysis of research breakthroughs, clinical application scenarios and future development pathways in core areas such as the microecology of infection, tumour microecology, and the prevention and control of metabolic chronic diseases. She fully affirmed the platform positioning, research layout and phased achievements of the Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory, and clearly stated that the laboratory must remain true to its original aspirations, deepen its expertise in its core areas, continuously strengthen original breakthroughs in basic research, and accelerate the rapid translation and implementation of more cutting-edge scientific achievements, thereby contributing to the development of China’s microecological biomedicine sector and the construction of a Healthy China.
During the presentation of achievements, Wu Nanping provided a systematic overview of the laboratory’s development and core research outcomes. As a key research and innovation platform prioritised by Shandong Province, the Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory has focused closely on the core scientific question of ‘microecology—metabolism—immunity—disease’, strategically aligning its research directions to build a comprehensive, end-to-end innovation system for microecology that encompasses multi-omics analysis, functional validation, engineering modification and industrial transformation. Furthermore, through sustained in-depth research and collaborative breakthroughs, the laboratory has achieved five major technological breakthroughs in core areas such as microecological regulatory mechanisms and the development of novel formulations, with all relevant technologies reaching internationally leading standards.

In the presence of the attending guests, the Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory signed on-site agreements with the Shandong Provincial Mental Health Centre, Shandong Science and Technology Innovation Group Future Industry Development Co., Ltd., Jinan International Medical Centre Industry Development Co., Ltd., and Shandong Kangmei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. These agreements establish in-depth strategic partnerships in areas such as technology transfer, joint research, clinical studies and industrial implementation, further integrating the closed-loop of “research – pilot production – industry – market” and promoting the deep integration of microecological technology with the broader health industry.

At the technology project roadshow and targeted matchmaking session, the laboratory presented eight high-quality achievements in succession: a novel oncolytic adenovirus candidate drug, a mechanically adaptive bioadhesive hydrogel patch, a composite probiotic formulation for lowering uric acid, a series of gynaecological gel products, humanised germ-free animal models, high-stress-tolerant microecological preparation technology, prebiotic-enriched health foods, and optimised processes for the entire probiotic production chain. Subsequently, the laboratory’s research team engaged in one-to-one targeted matchmaking sessions with enterprises and investment institutions, conducting in-depth discussions on aspects such as matching technological needs, innovating cooperation models, and the practical implementation of technology transfer.

During the event, attendees also took a tour of the Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory, gaining a detailed understanding of the platform’s development, research facilities, ongoing projects and progress in commercialisation. They expressed their full recognition of the laboratory’s innovative capabilities and industrialisation potential.

The successful hosting of this achievements presentation marks a significant milestone in the Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory’s efforts to promote the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation. Moving forward, the laboratory will continue to focus on the field of microecological biomedicine, pooling innovative resources, strengthening collaborative research, and accelerating the commercialisation of research outcomes, whilst working hand in hand with partners from all sectors to build an innovation ecosystem and jointly promote industrial upgrading.
