To thoroughly implement the overall national security concept and comply with the requirements of relevant laws and regulations, including the Biosafety Law of the People’s Republic of China, on 15 April—the eleventh National Security Education Day—the Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory invited a team of experts from the Shandong Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct specialised training on biosafety laws and regulations, as well as to engage in collaborative exchanges. Fan Yieou, Director of the Laboratory and Quality Management Department at the Shandong Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, and Deputy Director Zhang Wenqiang attended the event. Wu Nanping, Executive Deputy Director of the Laboratory, chaired the session, and all laboratory staff participated in the training.

During the training session, Director Fan Yieou delivered a systematic and professional lecture entitled ‘Legal, Regulatory and Standard Requirements for Biological Laboratories’. The course was closely aligned with the core requirements of the 2026 National Security Education Day for All Citizens, addressing the current landscape and new tasks in biosafety management. It provided a comprehensive interpretation of key national and local laws, regulations, and technical standards regarding laboratory biosafety, with a particular focus on explaining the statutory requirements and operational guidelines for critical aspects such as the classification management of pathogenic microorganism laboratories, biosafety risk assessment, experimental activity protocols, management of microbial (viral) strains, waste disposal, and emergency response.

Following the training, the expert team from the Shandong Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention conducted public awareness activities and interactive exchanges with all laboratory staff, and answered their questions. This effectively strengthened the entire staff’s legal awareness of biosafety and their risk prevention capabilities, thereby ensuring the practical implementation of the educational requirements for the National Security Education Day.

Wu Nanping, accompanied by relevant laboratory leaders and key research personnel, held a symposium with the visiting experts from the Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. At the meeting, Wu Nanping extended a warm welcome to Fan Yieou and his delegation. Subsequently, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on areas including collaborative research projects, academic exchanges among high-level talent, the sharing and exchange of scientific and technological resources, and the transformation and application of innovative achievements. They reached a broad consensus on establishing a regularised cooperation mechanism, realising complementary strengths, and promoting the deep integration of microecological biomedical research with public health prevention and control practices. Both parties agreed to use this National Security Education Day event as an opportunity to further strengthen the close collaboration between the Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and the Provincial Laboratory for Microecological Biomedicine, pooling their research and prevention capabilities to jointly contribute to safeguarding regional biosecurity and promoting high-quality development in the field of life and health.

Also in attendance were relevant officials from the Shandong Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and the Provincial Laboratory for Microecological Biomedicine in Jinan.
