On May 20, Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory held a meeting to discuss the construction plan of the biosample bank. Through the three-in-one mode of ‘site visit + special report + centralised demonstration’, the meeting conducted a comprehensive review of the core elements of the biosample bank, such as hardware facilities, management system and ethical compliance.
The evaluation team of this meeting consisted of Tian Yaping, Director of Birth Defects Prevention and Control Technology Research Center, Department of Medical Innovation and Research, General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army; Zhang Yujun, Director of Bio-Sample Banking Platform, People's Hospital of Peking University; Dr. Lv Jing, former researcher of China National Accreditation Centre for Conformity Assessment (CNAC); Wang Yawen, Director of the Bio-Sample Information and Resource Centre of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University; and Chen Qubo, Director of the Bio-Resource Centre of Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Wu Nanping, executive deputy director of the laboratory, and Li Xingang, deputy director of the laboratory, attended the meeting, and the heads of various functional departments attended the meeting.
The expert group first visited the exhibition hall of the laboratory, and learnt about the overall development of the laboratory in terms of talent team construction, breakthroughs in scientific research and the transformation and application of achievements. During the on-site survey of the biosample repository platform, the expert group focused on the verification of core facilities such as the -80℃ deep cryogenic storage system and the fully automatic liquid nitrogen storage room, and carried out on-site assessment of the dual-circuit electric power protection system and biosafety protection measures.
At the meeting, the person in charge of the sample bank equipment manufacturer reported the overall construction plan of the laboratory biobank from the aspects of construction plan, technical path, and implementation node.
After thorough questioning and discussion, the expert group unanimously agreed that the technical route of the construction programme is scientific, the implementation path is clear, and it is in line with the national biosafety regulations and medical ethical norms. It is recommended to further clarify the strategic development positioning of the laboratory's biosample bank, improve the emergency plan system, optimize the functional partition and personnel line design, and simultaneously promote the qualification declaration for the preservation of human genetic resources, so as to strive for the completion of a specialised biological resource bank with microecological research characteristics, and to provide basic support for the analysis of the microbiome and the mechanism of interactions of major diseases.
On behalf of the laboratory, Wu Nanping thanked the expert group for their professional guidance, and said that the biological sample library is an important facility to support precision medicine research, and the laboratory will comprehensively absorb the improvement suggestions put forward by the expert group, strictly follow the national standards for the construction of biological sample libraries, and formulate the rectification measures and time nodes one by one, and strive to build a ‘standardised storage-intelligent management-open sharing’. It will strive to build a strategic resource platform with ‘standardised storage, intelligent management and open sharing’ to provide basic support for the breakthrough of ‘neck-breaking’ technologies in the field of microecology medicine.
