On 10th May, the fourth meeting of the First Academic Committee of Jinan Microecological Biomedicine Shandong Laboratory was successfully held in Hangzhou. The meeting was chaired by Academician Li Lanjuan, Director of the Academic Committee, with Vice Directors Academician Yang Baofeng and Academician Tan Weihong, and members Academician Zheng Shusen, Academician Xu Jianguo, Academician Shang Hong, Academician Chen Zijiang, Academician Wang Junzhi, Prof. Li Xinguang, and Prof. Yuan Zhenghong, etc., who were present in a combined online and offline manner, as well as the Director's Committee of the Laboratory and some of the scientific researchers attending the meeting.
Prof Wu Nanping, executive deputy director of the laboratory, made an annual work report. She systematically summarised the important progress made by the laboratory from the dimensions of talent attraction, microecology and major disease mechanism research, biomedical technology innovation, industry-academia-research transformation, etc., and elaborated on the key scientific research plan of the laboratory in 2025 and the next construction and development plan.
In the expert discussion, the participating academicians and experts highly affirmed the effectiveness of the laboratory's work in the past year, and believed that the laboratory has shown strong development momentum in theoretical innovation, technology research and platform construction. For the next step of the laboratory's development, four suggestions were put forward: firstly, to further strengthen the cross-disciplinary integration, focusing on the core direction of the frontier areas of life and health and the major national needs, and strive to create a higher level of innovation platforms; secondly, to continue to improve the whole chain of innovation system of ‘basic research - results transformation - industrial application’, and to enhance the effectiveness of transformation of major scientific research results; thirdly, to deepen the cooperation with the medical and healthcare institutions, and to enhance the cooperation with the medical and healthcare institutions. Secondly, we will continue to improve the whole chain innovation system of ‘basic research, achievement transformation and industrial application’, and enhance the efficiency of major scientific research achievements; thirdly, we will deepen the synergy with medical institutions, universities and enterprises, and explore the new mechanism for the deep integration of industry, academia and research; fourthly, we will optimize the structure of the talent echelons, improve the system of young researchers' cultivation, and stimulate the innovation endogenous motivation, so that we can contribute to the promotion of the high quality of the development of micro-ecological biomedical research.
Academician Li Lanjuan pointed out in her concluding remarks that the laboratory should be based on the overall situation of ‘Healthy China’ strategy, give full play to the advantages of microecology research, actively innovate new research organisation models, strengthen the construction of research talents, and seize the academic high ground. As a next step, the laboratory should turn the guidance of the Academic Committee into development momentum, continue to deepen the reform of scientific research system and mechanism, stimulate innovation vitality, and endeavour to build a leading microecology biomedical innovation highland in China.
