At the forum of academicians and experts, Academician Li Lanjuan made an academic report entitled ‘Chronic Liver Disease and the Regulation of Intestinal Microecology’. Academician Li elaborated the specific mechanism of intestinal microecology in the process of occurrence and development of chronic liver disease, and highlighted the treatment strategy of chronic liver disease based on intestinal microecology regulation. She pointed out that by regulating the intestinal microecological balance, not only can the clinical symptoms of chronic liver disease patients be improved, but also can effectively delay the disease progression and improve the quality of life of patients, and put forward a series of innovative therapeutic methods and technological means, including probiotics, antibiotics, faecal bacteria transplantation, bacterial metabolite inhibitors, TLR inhibitors and so on. In addition, Academician Li Lanjuan also elaborated on the research progress of new generation probiotics, including the advantages, mechanism of action, development process, quality assessment and application potential of new generation probiotics, and made an outlook on the future application of specific flora to make precise intervention in the prevention and treatment of chronic liver disease, revealing for the attendees the potential value of intestinal micro-ecology in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognostic assessment of chronic liver disease.

Academician Zheng Shusen, on the other hand, brought an academic feast of ‘Liver Transplantation and Microecology in Hepatocellular Carcinoma’ in online format. Academician Zheng elaborated on the study of intratumoural microbiota in hepatocellular carcinoma, the characteristics of intestinal microecology in early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma, the progress of intestinal flora involved in the evolution of hepatocellular carcinoma, pointing out that non-invasive diagnosis of early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma can be made on the basis of intestinal microecology as well as the therapeutic strategies of liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma based on the regulation of microecology, including rational use of microecological modifiers such as probiotic bacteria and probiotic elements, and adoption of fecal colony transplantation and other cutting-edge technologies. These strategies have opened up a brand new vision and path for the clinical practice of liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma, and brought new hope to the majority of patients.

Academician Chen Zijiang also presented a lecture entitled ‘Intestinal Microecology and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome’ in the same online format also in the same online format. Academician Chen Zijiang discussed in depth the role of intestinal microecology in the pathogenesis of PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) through a series of cutting-edge research results and clinical cases. She found that there are significant specific changes in the intestinal microecology of PCOS patients, including a decrease in certain beneficial bacteria and an increase in harmful bacteria. These changes not only affect the physiological function of the gut, but also the reproductive endocrine system in women. Based on these findings, Academician Chen proposed a PCOS treatment strategy based on microecological regulation. She pointed out that by regulating the intestinal microecological balance, not only can the clinical symptoms of PCOS patients be improved, but also may have a positive impact on their reproductive endocrine system. To this end, she shared a series of innovative therapeutic approaches and technological tools, including probiotic interventions, dietary modifications and lifestyle changes, which provide new horizons and pathways for the clinical treatment of PCOS.
